Is your grill brush dangerous?

If you use a grill brush to clean your grill – You run the risk of small, sharp bristles breaking off and sticking to food you are cooking.   If a grill brush bristle is swallowed, you may need to have surgery to remove it if the bristle punctures your throat, stomach or small intestines.

Remove the Risk and replace your Grill Brush!

Some alternatives to the Grill Brush are:

Wood Scrapers are made of various woods that will not damage your grill – some come with grooves already in place

Coiled Wire Scrapers use coiled wire instead of bristles to clean the grills

Grill Brushes with replaceable Metal Scouring Pads are effective but clog up easily

Recyclable Grill Cleaning Brush made with natural fibers are almost as strong as wire, but this brush is not for use on a flaming hot grill since the bristles are combustible.

Cleaning Blocks look like pumice stones held in a special handle are actually made from recycled glass and are very good at getting tough deposits off  cooking grates. These stones will ultimately conform to the pattern of the grill grates you use them on.

Nylon Brushes have thick, stiff bristles that are designed to be used on cool surfaces.  Best used after cooking, while the grates are still warm

Clean a grill using half an onion to scrub the grill.  Some onion holding tools come with a special onion-cutting knife to give the onion grooves to fit the cooking grates. The cut onion is inserted into a handle, making it easy to hold.

Grill Mats enable cooking with limited mess, protects the grill, and reduces cleanup as they are dishwasher safe. However, you must be careful using forks and tongs.

·    Crumbled up Tin Foil held with tongs (be careful with smaller pieces of foil coming off)

·    Various Scraping Tools made of stainless steel for cleaning grill grates are available in many forms.  Caution - metal scrapers may damage porcelain and metal grills

·    Chemical Grill Cleaners are available and effective for big cleaning but are messy and use chemicals to clean the grills and require scrubbing with abrasive pads. (follow the instructions and wear the right protective equipment)
